The word BARF is an acronym for Biologically Appropriate Raw Food or in simple terms- Bones and Raw Food.

Feeding a raw or BARF diet is simple. The key is to use foods that are raw (not cooked) and foods that are natural and wholesome. It means not feeding your pet processed or cooked foods that are full of preservatives and additives. Raw foods contain the proportions of fat, proteins, vitamins, minerals and enzymes your pet needs in a daily diet. Our pets are carnivores by nature. They were physically designed to eat and digest raw meats, uncooked bones and raw organ meats. According to Dr. Ian Billinghurst, one of the foremost authority on feeding the BARF diet, “although we humans have changed the outward appearance and nature of the modern dog in all sorts of ways through domestication, we have not changed its basic internal workings. The entire digestive system and the way the food is utilized for growth, maintenance, repair, and reproduction is fundamentally the same as its wild ancestors.” And cats are certainly no different in this respect.
