Our Story
Our journey into the BARF world began in 1996. We had a female Boxer named Sassy that had numerous food and environmental allergies. We were “regulars” at our Vet’s office getting shots, pills, ointments, shampoos, etc. We were trying anything and everything to help her get some relief. We even took her to an allergy specialist and had a special serum made to her specific allergies. We followed the Vet’s advice and changed her diet to a recommended prescription kibble, sold at the Vet’s office that was “low allergen” and continued with her very expensive allergy shots. We anxiously waited and watched for improvement. She continued suffering through symptoms such as scratching, licking, lack of energy and no appetite. She was miserable and we said enough is enough! At the same time a friend suggested we try an “all natural” approach and feed a raw diet. We did our research (see recommended websites and books) and discovered a natural raw diet may be the answer, or at least we hoped so.
Within a short time we saw improvement and we were getting our Sassy back!! She was playing again, her appetite was incredible, she was off her medications and she looked healthier. What changed? Her immune system was getting stronger and she was able to “naturally” fight off her environmental and inhalant allergies. When feeding a raw diet we could control the ingredients and as a result, her food allergies were eliminated. We saw such improvement in her that we decided to feed our three other dogs the raw diet. We have been a healthy and happy BARF family ever since!
